Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral to see a dietitian?
No referral is required to schedule an appointment with Zain Nutritional Therapy. However, if your physician has recommended medical nutrition therapy, a referral may help with insurance coverage.
Does insurance cover nutrition counseling?
Many insurance plans cover Medical Nutrition Therapy for specific conditions such as diabetes and kidney disease. Coverage varies by plan and diagnosis. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to ask about your MNT benefits. We are happy to provide you with the necessary codes and documentation to support your claim.
What is the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?
A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is a licensed healthcare professional with a minimum of a graduate degree in nutrition, supervised clinical training, and a national board exam. The title 'nutritionist' is not legally regulated in many states and does not require any specific credentials. At Zain Nutritional Therapy, your care is delivered by a credentialed RDN.
Do I need to follow a special diet to work with you?
Not at all. We start from wherever you are right now. Our job is to understand your current eating patterns and help you make changes that are realistic, sustainable, and clinically appropriate — not to impose a rigid diet on you from day one.
Can you work with me if I am fasting for Ramadan or other religious practices?
Yes, absolutely. We have experience working with Muslim patients during Ramadan and other fasting periods, as well as patients who observe other religious dietary laws or fasting traditions. We will tailor your plan to honor your practice while keeping your health safe.
Do you offer telehealth appointments?
Yes. We offer telehealth appointments, making it easy to access care from home. This is especially helpful for patients managing multiple appointments or those with limited transportation.
How long will I need to see a dietitian?
This depends on your condition and goals. Some patients see significant improvements within 3–6 months and transition to occasional maintenance visits. Others benefit from ongoing support as they manage long-term chronic conditions. We will discuss a realistic timeline during your initial assessment
